Essential oils are an incredible way to find natural solutions to everyday problems. Here are a few ways I love to use one of my favorite essential oil blends.
R.C. (or respiratory care) is an essential oil blend produced by a company called Young Living. Per Young Living’s website, it’s touted for its cooling, refreshing experience and it “may provide a refreshing breathing experience.” We have found that to be the case and keep this oil handy during allergy season in the spring and sick season during the winter.
Young Living also provides several different uses for the product. However, if you’re allergic to the ingredients, it’s encouraged that you steer clear of using this product. Young Living R.C. oil has three types of eucalyptus oils – e. globulus, e. citriodora, and e. radiata. It also has peppermint oil.
Common uses of RC
Topical applications
R.C. is a powerful blend and I highly recommend using it with a carrier oil. To apply topically, you can add a few drops of carrier oil to a roller bottle. Apply to the chest or back of the neck for that boost to get you going. Some people use this before an early morning workout! The cooling sensation from the peppermint would be a great addition to add to any workout routine.
Speaking of working out, other essential oil users will apply r.c. under a hot compress. The hot compress is a great way to get blood circulating and the menthol from the peppermint oil provides a cooling sensation. All great for sore muscles screaming for relief after what your day demands!
Diffuse
You can also put a few drops of RC into your diffuser to clear your breathing during those pesky allergy seasons. We prefer to put a few in the shower and let it rise with the steam during the winter. I must say – it’s an invigorating experience! Because of that, avoid using this oil in your bedtime routine. That peppermint oil will really perk you up!
RC essential oil blend is also a great oil to diffuse in stuffy spaces, like rooms that haven’t been used often or those that don’t get a lot of air movement. My first thought would be to bring a diffuser and get some going in a hotel room. When was the last time those got proper air movement?
Keep in mind
RC essential oil blend is for external use. Avoid placing the oil in mucous membranes (think your nose or eyes) because peppermint essential oil may burn.
Other tips
RC essential oil blend would be a great way to create a little at-home spa experience. Diffuse it for a girl’s brunch while everyone soaks their feet and enjoys how refreshing it is. What a morning!
When considering carrier oils for your roller bottles, you don’t have to use the v-6 oil Young Living exclusively produces. Olive oil or coconut oil are also great carrier oils! I’m a big fan of using what’s available to me and slowly transitioning the products in my home. If you’re in that boat too, utilize that tip of swapping out your carrier oils!
Other great essential oils for respiratory function are spruce oil, all of the varieties of eucalyptus oils, and probably the most well-known – peppermint oil.
While some like to market RC essential oil blends for things like immune system support, aiding in respiratory infections, or providing a “refreshing respiratory experience,” it’s always a good thing to remember that medical advice should only be taken from a professional who works directly with you. It’s also a good thing to remember that certain essential oils work differently for different people! That’s one of the wonders of how God created us. It doesn’t take away from the effectiveness of the oil itself, but it may impact how effective it is when we as individuals are working with it.
If you have a known medical condition, I would also encourage you to work with a care provider before using essential oils.
You may have also heard of Young Living’s raindrop technique. This is a massage technique, but it’s steeped in a bit of controversy. Part of that controversy stems from using oils without a carrier oil and how many oils you’re using at once. Talk about an invigorating massage! All joking aside, it is important to know how powerful essential oils can be, especially without the use of carrier oil. So when taking advantage of R.C.’s refreshing scent, do so carefully.

If you’re new to the world of essential oils, Young Living founder D. Gary Young began Young Living in 1993 with an organic herb farm and distillation operation. Since opening, they have created a multi-level marketing company focused on purity and clarity in their products. You’ll notice quite a few familiar scents – lemon, lavender, orange, lime, cedarwood, peppermint, and more. Check out their website for more information on their extensive product list.
