Why I Label My Essential Oil Bottles and Roller Bottles
I love using essential oils for our family. A huge draw to essential oils for us was having control over adjusting the strength of the oils in every recipe.
That meant I could truly fine-tune what oils we use to benefit our family the most. When I began making recipes for my children, I wasn’t relying on someone who was telling me they knew what they were doing. I could alter any recipe I chose to best fit my children.
As my knowledge of creating essential oil roller bottles grew, so did my essential oil roller bottle collection. I knew I needed to be precise in how I labeled everything!
I now use essential oils for everything from simple roller bottles to battle allergies to diffusing some refreshing peppermint when I’m struggling to focus.
It’s important to me that I’m reaching for lavender, not peppermint when I’m struggling to sleep. Each roller blend I create serves a very specific purpose. And if I’m the steward of my health, I want to nurture my body in what it needs!

Is Making My Labels Worth the Extra Cost?
Many of the essential oil products you purchase have labels that come with them. However, they don’t tend to be quality labels that hold up to frequent use. Many labels sent from the manufacturer of the glass containers also aren’t waterproof.
If you want greater control over the type of labels and how they look on your products, making your own labels is worth the extra cost, time, and effort.
If you have an essential oil business, making your labels is worth the extra cost. Not only is it an expense you can write off in most states, but it’s also a way to ensure your brand is cohesively represented.
If you are making labels for personal use, it’s simply a great way to make sure you are using the correct essential oil product in the right application. There’s nothing like applying peppermint when you’re trying to fall asleep!
Materials You Need to Make Printable Labels for Essential Oil Products
Laser printers and inkjet printers can both print labels. However, laser printers tend to produce better-quality text. Especially if that text is small. Inkjet printers are most common for home use.
Blank labels come in a variety of shapes and sizes. I encourage you to select a label based on the product you are creating.
For roller bottles, you can select rectangle, square, or circle-style labels. The size of the label will depend on the size of the bottle. For example, a 1 by 2-inch rectangle label may work for a 5 ml roller bottle.
I personally use Avery labels or Premium Label Supply brand labels for all of my essential oil products. They are available both in stores and online so they are easy to purchase.
The labels I use are not waterproof, but Avery produces a variety of waterproof options.
If you can’t find “waterproof” in the product description, try searching for “weatherproof” or “weatherproof gloss.”
You can also keep things simple by printing on full 8.5 by 11-inch label sheets. You can design your labels on a flyer, print them, and cut out the labels. So simple!

How to Make Labels for Essential Oil Products
I design my labels in an online program and upload them to print directly on label templates. I download the PDF file and print it from the comfort of my own home.
For full-sheet label pages, I follow the same advice. However, instead of designing, label templates, I design on an 8.5 x 11 inch flyer.
When I design my labels, I’m sure to put the full product description somewhere on the label. I don’t include the recipe, like how many drops of each oil I included, but I do include the oils that were used.
I have found that 5 mL roller bottles are the perfect size for everyday use for my family. One-by-two-inch address-style labels are the perfect size for those roller bottles.
If you are struggling with things like print colors or screen resolution, be sure to check the factory recommendations for both your printer and computer.
For best results when creating a label design, be sure to let your ink dry completely and keep your oil containers upright so they don’t leak and ruin your label.

Essential Oil Labels Used for All Creations
When we think of essential oils, the simplest product is usually a 5 ml roller bottle. However, don’t limit yourself!
You can make spray bottles and an aromatherapy inhaler alongside your roller bottle blends.
If you want to ditch candles for essential oils, start with an essential oil diffuser! I have posts on recipes and how to clean them on the blog.
Which Essential Oils Should I Use?
You can tell from my pictures I use Young Living essential oils. I also use Cliganic brand essential oils because I was looking for an alternative. I have had great luck with both products.
If you are searching for a company that’s the right fit for you, you can consider looking at how the essential oils are distilled, where the original plants are grown, how those plants are harvested, and how the production company verifies the efficacy and purity of the distilled oils.
It’s also important to note that essential oil companies, and their representatives, may not be fit to offer medical advice. If you are using essential oils for health conditions, be sure to work with a doctor.
