Why DIY non-toxic bath bombs?
I’m going to be honest with you – we’re less than a week away from Christmas and I’m still compiling my presents! I know, I know – I should have planned a bit better this year. Knowing I was up against the clock, I wanted to make something so I knew I wouldn’t have to bother with shipping or returns. Thus – DIY bath bombs were something I knew would show my appreciation AND help my friends and family unwind.
I also decided to do something like a homemade bath bomb because I’m taking my work with Young Living more seriously. My family and I have dedicated ourselves to prioritizing our health and I want to share some of the things we’re finding with our family and friends.
For instance, these bath bombs are made with lavender essential oils. Lavender itself is such a versatile oil – it’s in skin products and it can be diffused at the end of the day to help you unwind. Who doesn’t need more relaxation in their life right now?
Lavender is also fresh and floral. It’s a beautiful scent and I wanted to be sure my friends and family were able to experience it this year.

What you need to make DIY non-toxic bath bombs
I found this original recipe on Inspired By Charm but doubled it because I know I would need the volume for how many gifts I plan to give out. My recipe is:
- 2 cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- 1 cup epsom salt
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 5 teaspoons oil
- 15 drops essential oil
- 2 tablespoons water
- Glass bowl
- Whisk
- Bath bomb molds

How to make DIY bath bombs
- Whisk to combine baking soda, citric acid, epsom salt and cornstarch in a large, glass bowl.
- Combine water, oil and essential oils in a small glass bowl.
- Slowly incorporate water and oil mixture into dry ingredients.
- Lightly pack bath bombs into molds and press molds together. Firmly pack molds together and shake vigorously in molds.
- Gently release bath bomb from molds.
- Let stand for 24 hours before packaging into themed gift bags (like Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day) and giving to others.

Why we decided to start using essential oils
I have been using essential oils consistently for about three years now. I was first introduced to them while I was in college, but I never took them seriously. I didn’t do my research, and started out using products that caused reactions. Only later did I find out that quality was so, so important when it came to what essential oils you use.
That’s how I found Young Living. As a company, the organization began prioritizing it’s work with farmers to create sustainable farms. Young Living tests (both with its own technicians and with outsourced labs) each bottle more than 100 times before it ever reaches the consumers hands. All of this is a part of Young Living’s Seed to Seal commitment, which you can find more about here.
So when my husband and I decided to use essential oils, we knew the only company we felt comfortable enough bringing into our home was Young Living. Not only does the company work to harness oils and support a healthy lifestyle, it has a line of supplements, makeup, pet products, children’s products and more. This was a company that would support our whole family, not just our love for essential oils.
After using oils for about three years, we decided to take the leap and share our love of oils with others. That’s how my Young Living business was born! As a company structure, Young Living works with brand ambassadors (me) to get the products into your hands. By working with me, you’re supporting my organization – a freedom Young Living allows me so that I can build my business, market my business and share my business in any way that I please. Have you been using Young Living products, but you want to take advantage of the business, too? Check out Young Living’s income disclosure here.
